Resources provided

  • NASA Infographic – space spin-offs
  • Suggested short videos and games for introductory task
  • Listening Comprehension – Space Technology spin-offs
  • Writing/Speaking task

Suggested Activities

  1. Start the lesson by showing a short video about space spin-offs (from the suggested list or otherwise) or playing the game in the suggested list.
  2. Lead a class discussion about which inventions students found most surprising or useful.
  3. Conduct a listening comprehension activity which explains more about space spin-offs.
  4. Guide students through a short research and presentation task, where each student selects an invention to learn more about and present to the class either orally or in writing. This can be in the form of the following writing genres:
      1. Writing a non-chronological report (to inform)
      2. Designing and producing a poster (to inform; to persuade; to explain; to describe)

N.B. The above activities may take place either within 1 lesson or spread out over several lessons, at the teacher’s discretion, in order to take into account time constraints and natural progress from receptive to productive skills.
